ATHENS HALF-MARATHON
TERMS OF PARTICIPATION in the Volunteer Program
• Each volunteer participates in the event on his / her own free will.
• Volunteers of the event are those who have submitted the online application and have received a placement response message.By submitting the application, the volunteers fully accept all terms. All adults and minors starting from the age of 13 and over may participate in the Athens Half-marathon volunteer program if they participate through a school or volunteer team under the condition that the potential volunteer is accompanied by an adult volunteer. In this case, the application is submitted by the person in charge of the group or the parent / guardian who exercises parental responsibility, and fully accepts these conditions.
• If the application / declaration of participation is submitted by a third party, it is considered that the participant agrees to make available his / her personal data to SEGAS and the Organizing Committee of the Match through the third person.
• With the application form, the participant agrees that his / her personal data are processed for the purpose of the race course. Any other processing of the personal data of the volunteer is only possible upon the consent of the data subject for the specific stated purpose.
• All volunteers must respect and abide by the race regulations before, during and after the race.
• General training session is mandatory for all volunteers who are involved for the first time.
• Volunteers of the event consent to photos being taken during their voluntary work by the photographers and the official Photographic Agency of the event, as well as their image being taken during the video recording, filming or other visual recording of the event. The volunteers of the event agree with the use of these downloads and their reproduction in combination with their full name. The relevant commercial rights of the above are solely for SEGAS and the participants have no right to ownership of the above photographic or other downloads, nor the right to full or partial compensation for this reason.
• Participants in the event consent to the use of the image taken during their duties from the organizers, sponsors or other affiliates of the event for publicity and future promotion, without any right to full or partial compensation for this reason.
• SEGAS and the Organizing Committee of the race bear no responsibility in the event of an injury, damage or any other sort of harm to the volunteer or participant in the event or spectator.
• During voluntary work, volunteers ought to wear the volunteer T-shirt and windbreaker over another personal garment so that the word 'Volunteer' appears to be distinct and recognizable by runners and viewers.
• During voluntary work, the accreditation that defines the placement and the exact spot of voluntary work must be visible (above clothing).
• During voluntary work, volunteers must be present in the position they were placed and under no circumstances change their place voluntarily during the races. Change of position is only possible when the Volunteer Program Office advises accordingly on the situation.
• During the voluntary work, volunteers must follow the instructions of the team-leader of each volunteer station.
• During the voluntary work, volunteers ought to sign upon their arrival and departure by filling in the attendance list and immediately notify the Volunteer Program office and their team-leader for the absence or delay of arrival. Without a signature in place, the volunteer is considered absent.
• In the course of the voluntary work volunteers must immediately inform the team leader of absence.
• Receipt of clothing and accreditation is completed by showcasing identity or any other additional legal identification document. A third party may receive them on behalf of the volunteer only if the Volunteer's Office has been informed through the volunteer's application, via an e-mail or via a certified statement.
• Accreditation is personal, non-transferable and involves the presence of the person selected in the specific placement of the voluntary work.
• In the event of a crisis, accreditation is obligatorily delivered to the Volunteer Program Office. A new accreditation is issued when a volunteer constitutes a replacement.
• If a volunteer’s accreditation is used by another volunteer or any other person non registered to the Volunteer Program, both persons involved will be excluded from the Volunteer Program.
• In the event of an absence on the day of the race without prior notice, the volunteer will be excluded from the upcoming event held by the Federation.
• In volunteer’s absence the person must return the clothing and accreditation, or else the potential volunteer will be forever excluded from the Volunteer Program.
• The material managed by volunteers during their work in all areas of the event belongs to SEGAS and is available according to the instructions of the authorized/ responsible person.
• It is not allowed to dispose any of the material to anyone.
• The use of the materials is realized always in accordance with the instructions laid down by the Organizing Committee and only for the purposes of the organization.
• All volunteers accept that their personal data are provided to the cooperating Insurance Company that SEGAS utilizes for safety purposes. Under this context, SEGAS ensures that volunteers are insured in case an accident occurs during the race.
• A certificate of attendance will be received by all those who have successfully completed their voluntary tasks and signed off upon leaving the group's station.
• On the occasion of a double placement, volunteers must sign in /out both attendance sheets.
• The certificate of participation is posted on the website tab for volunteering, a month after the end of the event.
• Simultaneous application as a volunteer and a runner, results in automatic cancellation of the volunteer's application.
• The Organizing Committee may set a morning and an afternoon shift of voluntary work based on the need.
• In regard to the placement, the Organizing Committee together with the Volunteer department reserves the right not to place the volunteer or group in the position that has been filled in the application, since it is necessary to predominantly meet the needs of the race lead by rational criteria and secondarily fulfill the wishes of each applicant. In addition, the O.C in collaboration with the Volunteer department may request a volunteer to withdraw from the event upon receiving a justification.
• Participation in the Volunteer Program does not constitute in any way a job, nor justifies a claim for remuneration, but it is only a voluntary offer of services within the framework of the goals set by the organization.
Volunteering Opportunities, SUNDAY, 10th March 2024
1. START AREA (Syntagma Square)
supporting the runners entering the correct starting block and forming human chains as divisions between blocks
2. WATER/FEED STATIONS (along the race course)
supporting the runners with water and other refreshments
3. FINISH AREA (Syntagma Squ. Amalias Str)
Supporting the runner after the finish line and until their exit from the running field, management of clothing*, crowd management, spectator services, medical services, radio station, etc
4. SPECIAL COLLABORATING TEAMS
Member of special collaborating volunteering teams (rescue, recycling-green teams)
PRE-RACE PERIOD
Preparation Center: Preparation of goodie / gift bags for runners/event participants.
Registration Center: Providing runners with their racing (BIB) number and other participation material.

1. What do I need to become a volunteer for the Athens Half Marathon? where can I find information about the application and the participation in general?
All the information about the application, and the participation in the volunteer programme can be found on our website, section VOLUNTEERING / VOLUNTEERING APPLICATION FORM.
2. I am a student, can I become a volunteer at the Athens Half Marathon?
Of course you can! Option 1: You can apply through an official volunteering team (e.g. school/club etc) member of the Volunteering Program of the event. Option 2: You can also take part if companied by an adult (parent/guardian) who is required to fill in the application form as well.
3. What are the available volunteer opportunities?
In order to check all available volunteer opportunities you may visit VOLUNTEERING>VOLUNTEERING SECTIONS.
4. Can I choose the placement?
Upon filling in the application one can select his/her wish. Please note that as a sports event, all volunteers may be assigned in any position/volunteer opportunity based solely on the needs of the races.
5. Can I be together with my friends?
Yes, provided that you mention it. For more than 3 friends, it is best to use the same name as reference.
6. How will I know if and where I am placed?
About 7-10 days before the race, you will be sent an e-mail with all the relevant information.
7. I collected the T-shirt and the accreditation, but I did not participate the day of the Race. Also, I did not inform my team leader about my being absent. Will there be any problem?
Well, the problem will surface the day of the Race when your position will be vacant and those who counted on you, your TEAM, will be underequipped! Moreover, those who do not parcitipate and do not inform our Volunteering Program about their absence, appear to not truly care about the Race and team, so next time they apply for, they minimize the chances of getting selected.
8. How long is a volunteer shift?
Each shift depends on the race that supports. Starting time is between 7:00am-8.00 and ending time is between 13:00 to 14:00 PM.
9. Is it compulsory to stay at the position assigned until the end?
Volunteering is not practiced out of obligation. All volunteers are given the opportunity to accept or reject the position offered. Once they accept, commitment to the position assigned is expected alike any other of our everyday life, and it is essential like in every project or goal to fully accept all terms pertaining as well as the directions of the team leader.
10. Is there any training before the Race?
There are two short sessions; the first is the general introduction delivered by the Volunteering Program, aiming to present the races, the structure of the event and all related information. The second is the specialised training delivered by the team leader allocated in the specific spot in order to brief the team on the details of its operation. The general is taking place almost a month before the races while the specialised one takes place the day before or the same day on the field of races.
11. Can I run one of the races and offer my services as a volunteer thereafter?
No, in this race, one cannot be a volunteer and a runner simultaneously as the volunteer shift time coinsides with the running one.
12. How do I cancel my application? Can I send some friend in my place?

Any change or replacement is valid only once approved by the Volunteering Program. ALL volunteers participating in Athens Half Marathon are insured, preventively, like all the personel for the day of the race. Plus, all volunteers wear their personal accreditation.
13. While I volunteer, can I have my children with me?
On the day of the event, many of the areas where the races take place are overcrowded, therefore your children would need appropriate supervision. If you wish to bring your children with you, it is preferable to choose a support station to offer your services where the environment is relatively safer.
14. What do volunteers wear on the day of the event?
All volunteers must wear the T-shirt of the event and their personal accreditation. It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
15. Is there a personal items storage area available?
No, there is no special personal items storage area and all volunteers are prompted to carry only the items that are absolutely necessary for personal use.
16. If, the weather is bad, it is rainy, will the race run?
The race will take place under any weather conditions unless there are exceptional circumstances that require the delay, the postponement or the cancellation of the race.
17. If I lose the T-shirt or it gets ruined, can I replace it?
No, it is the responsibility of the volunteer to keep the T-shirt of the event intact until the day of the race.
18. Do I have to return the clothes and the accreditation that I collected after the end of the race?
No. Whatever you receive is a memorabilia of the event.
19. Do I need specific skills or special qualifications in order to volunteer?
No specific skills or requirements are needed in most of the volunteer opportunities, even if every station has its own specifications in order to satisfy the positions needs in terms of supporting the runners and the race. ΅What is absolutely necessary is the smile, the good will, feeling good to work with other people, being ready and eager to live the unique moments when offering sellflessly.
New Half Marathon volunteers are expected to attend the general training session in order to get acquainted with the race. Past and experienced volunteers are also prompted to attend it in order to remember details of the race, the field and get the whole image of the coming race.
20. Do I have to live in Athens in order to volunteer?
No, everybody is welcome to join our team, however, if you a non-Athens resident you will have to take care on your own accommodation the nights before the race.
21. How can I be certain that I receive the e-mails sent by the Volunteering Program?
All the information that is sent by email is already posted in the website plus additional posts are made at VOLUNTEERS/NEWS-ANNOUNCEMENTS section. The sole message that is not posted is the placement one because it is personal for every volunteer and it is sent at the e-mail address noted in the volunteer application. For more information or clarifications, volunteers and anyone interested are kindly asked to contact the Volunteering Program.
The Volunteering Program occasionally sents group e-mails. Please be aware that several e-mail service providers and spam filters redirect our e-mails to the Spam / Junk mail folders of the users or even prevent their receipt. For this reason we advise you to monitor both your e-mail and your spam folder.
22. Who gets the participation certificate, when and how?
All volunteers who marked present by their team leader (check-in/check-out) are eligible to the Certificate of Participation. The certificate is available to download or print one month and half after the race to the relevant section.

Volunteers of Athens Half Marathon may pick up their accreditation and t-shirt from Thursday 1st of May 2014to Saturday 3rd of May 2014, from 10:00 to 19:00 at “Ioannis Fokianos Gym” (hall 4), 1 Vassilissis Olgas Av., located opposite to Kallimarmaro Stadium.

Dear Volunteers and friends of the Athens Half Marathon 2014,
Few days are left for the 3rd Half Marathon and we should all prepare ourselves in order to achieve a great success in this athletic organization.
For that reason we invite you to the volunteers’ general training that will be held with the support of the Municipality of Athens at the auditorium/amphitheater “Antonis Tritsis” of the Cultural Center of Athens(entrance from Solonos Str.).
The general training day will take place on Friday 2nd of May 2014, 17:30 to 19:30. Please attend the training and learn in detail all interesting information and important changes that will be presented from the organizers of the Athina Half Marathon.
