SEGAS (the Hellenic Athletics Federation) and the City of Athens/OPANDA begin the grand effort to “restart” the road race events in Greece and return to a social lifestyle, starting with the staging of Athens Half Marathon event in September 12th 2021, supported by the Region of Attica, and Event Grand Sponsor ERGO Insurance.

The 2021 Athens Half Marathon event will apply all safety rules and regulations of the National Public Health Organization, and abide by the “Road Races Staging Health Protocol” that shall be regularly reviewed in accordance with the indications by the relevant Health Committee of Ministry of Sports.

According to the current Health Protocol, only fully vaccinated runners and runners with proof of recovery from COVID-19 until 15 days before their runners’ kit collection from the Registration Centre (until Saturday 11/9 before the race day) can register and participate in the 2021 Athens Half Marathon event.

After concluding the last refund requests from the 2020 event’s cancellation and assessing the deferred entries from last year’s edition, the Organizing Committee has decided to start the registration period with a few limited entries.

Runners with deferred entries will automatically receive their new registration confirmation with all relevant information, by priority, before the registration period opens, and we would like to thank them once more for their support and trust!

For the limited entries available, the registration period will start on Thursday July 8th 2021 (at 02.00 pm) exclusively via our official website (www.athinahalfmarathon.gr). As we want to make sure you have all the necessary information, please make sure to check out the event’s COVID-19 Cancellation Policy before registering to the event.

Over the next period, we will make announcements regarding the staging and registration period of the Authentic Marathon that is scheduled for November 13-14th 2021, as well as the pending refunds timeline from the 2020 Athens Marathon cancellation. We would like to thank once more all runners for their support and patience in this process.

In the framework of planning all competition activities for 2021 still within the covid-19 pandemic that troubles the entire world, and taking under consideration the current data in close cooperation with all responsible health and public authorities, SEGAS (the Hellenic Athletics Federation) and the City of Athens are announcing the staging of the 2021 Athens Half Marathon event on May 23rd, 2021. This decision regarding the staging of the Athens Half Marathon event into the last days of May, and not during the third weekend of March as usual, was taking after detailed study of all sanitary parameters and factors that are daily changing, taking under account the already announced competition activities for 2021, and with priority to public health and the health of the event’s participants.

In case the conditions related to covid-19 pandemic in Greece do now allow, even then, the staging of the 2021 Athens Half Marathon on May 23rd, something we surely pray not, the 2021 Athens Half Marathon will definitely be held on September 12th, two months before the steady date of the Authentic Athens Marathon
